Job Summary

The Component Engineer is responsible for evaluating and qualifying new commercial off-the-shelf components for SCIEX Mass Spectrometry instruments, ensuring they meet design, compliance, and supply requirements. They assess technology, supplier capability, lifecycle, and availability, then baseline approved components in the Product Data Management system. This role supports both new product development and existing manufacturing to maintain On-Time Delivery, collaborating closely with R&D and Supply Chain teams to address component needs and issues.

This position reports to the Senior Manager of Component Engineering and is part of the R&D team located in Concord, Ontario, Canada and will be an on-site role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support New Product Introductions (NPI): Investigate, source, and recommend Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS) components, establishing performance baselines for release.
  • Collaborate with designers and suppliers to ensure specifications fully capture the intended design requirements for instrument launch.
  • Manage Existing Production Components: Identify and recommend replacement components that maintain compatibility and intended functionality of original parts.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams—including R&D and Supply Chain—to qualify new components and ensure continuity of supply and on-time delivery.
  • Conduct Bill of Material (BOM) Assessments: Evaluate product lifecycles for both new development projects and existing production lines to support long-term sustainability and performance.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronic, or Electro-Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Experience: 5+ years of relevant experience as a Component Engineer within an R&D environment.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with Product Data Management.
