Job Summary
The Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR) has responsibility for nurturing interdisciplinary research initiatives at one of the nations’ leading research institutions. OVPR provides overall research administration and policy for all colleges and schools, as well as the university’s more than 100 centers and institutes.
Key Responsibilities
- Work closely with deans, department heads, faculty, students and staff to provide an innovative and supportive research environment.
- Mentor and help CMU generated startup companies become successful.
- Look for opportunities to start their own companies based on CMU ideas and IP.
- Work with the Swartz Center for Entrepreneurship and other CMU research centers/institutes/departments for a period of 6 months to 2 years.
- Teach innovation and entrepreneurship courses as Adjunct Professors.
- Lead workshops and seminars in their areas of expertise.
- Attend and recruit attendees (e.g., investors) for CMU and Swartz Center events and showcases.
- Be housed in/consult with the Swartz Center’s Incubator – Project Olympus.
- Meet Bi-Weekly with the Swartz Center team, CMU Research Centers/Institutes and other EIRs.
Requirements
- Successful entrepreneurs who are in transition, typically having recently sold or left their successful startup.
- Ability to effectively interact with a varied population of internal and external partners at a high level of integrity.
- Adaptability, excellence, and passion are vital qualities.
