Job Summary
Serve as Enviva internal subject matter expert for fire protection and respond to inquiries on system design and functionality.
Key Responsibilities
- Review all vendor drawings & deliverables ensuring adherence to Enviva engineering specifications, good engineering practices, and relevant industry code.
- Drive consistency across project designs by implementing best practices with the goal of achieving companywide standardization.
- Partner with procurement to provide direction and conduct reviews on scope of work packages.
- Implement sound engineering solutions for mitigating existing issues, drive continuous improvement, and introduce innovations where appropriate.
- Travel to sites to support proper design & installation.
- Support development of proactive maintenance & reliability practices to ensure engineering controls for fire and explosion hazards are effective and reliable.
- Support internal Process (Dust) Hazard Analysis (PHA) to assess the risks and identify controls for mitigating fire and explosion hazards.
- Facilitate problem solving and root cause investigations related to fire prevention and equipment with local maintenance, plant engineering, EHS, regional engineering and maintenance personnel.
- Support facilities in the development of Emergency Response Plans for fires and explosions and evaluate the effectiveness of plans through periodic drill.
Requirements
- Knowledge in fire water systems including industrial wet/dry sprinkler systems, fire water pumps both diesel and electric, hydrants and PIVs, etc.
- Minimum 2-year degree with preference in fire protection, emergency response, or other safety related field.
- 5 years of experience working fire protection in industrial manufacturing settings.
- On the job experience with combustible dust specific practices.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the application of problem-solving tools such as cause mapping, 5 why, and 5S.
- Knowledge of equipment and techniques for fighting industrial fires.
- Must be data-driven and possess a high level of attention to detail.
- Knowledge of National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and team leadership skills.
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint with the ability to learn other applications related to the job.
- Must be a self-starter with ability to prioritize workload.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a wood products processing industry OR experience working in Fire Protection discipline for engineering.
- Experience participating in Process Hazard Analysis, Combustible Dust Hazard Analysis, Failure Modes Effects Analysis or pro-active risk identification.
