Job Summary
The role is part of the In-Space Systems business unit, which is focused on addressing two of the most compelling challenges in spaceflight today: space infrastructure and increasing mobility on-orbit. We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and commitment to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight. Key Responsibilities
- Creates the overall plan for the development of a low-cost Hall thruster
- Establishes and leads the Hall thruster development team
- Responsible for the overall design architecture of a Hall thruster
- Manages the Hall thruster test facility development
- Develops the Hall thruster verification and validation plan, including any additional model development required
- Develops the manufacturing and test plans to produce a low-cost Hall thruster
- Supports the propulsion system in the development of a Hall thruster subsystem
- Collaborates with other subsystem team members, in particular feed system and power electronics engineers, for the development of other Hall thruster subsystem components
- Develops the roadmap and plans for future In Space Systems electric propulsion developments
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of a master’s degree in engineering or equivalent technical field
- 8+ years of related experience (including graduate work) in the design, development, and flight of electric propulsion systems, and at least 5 years specifically related to Hall thrusters
- Established member of the electric propulsion technical community
- Domain expert in one or more areas of electric thruster development
- Proven experience in the electric thruster development lifecycle
- An understanding of low-cost electric thruster manufacturing and acceptance testing
- Leadership or management experience as well as a history of mentoring
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Desired Qualifications
- Successful candidates in this role typically have 10+ years in the design, development, and flight of electric propulsion systems
- Ph.D in a field and with a thesis topic relevant to the development of Hall thrusters
Compensation Range
CA applicants is $145,188.00 – $203,263.20
CO applicants is $133,500.00 – $186,898.95
WA applicants is $145,188.00 – $203,263.20
