Job Summary

The City of Fort Worth Water Department is seeking a motivated Civil Engineering Intern to join our team to help with Capital Improvement projects. Our department ensures safe, reliable water and wastewater services for our community. We plan, design, and maintain infrastructure that supports growth and sustainability for one of the fastest-growing cities in the nation. We are looking for an intern from February 2026 to December/January of 2027. This is a part-time position working up to 19 hours a week.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the review of Water and Wastewater Master Plans
  • Prepare and update Project Information Forms (PIFs) with clear, concise technical documentation
  • Support data analysis by collecting, organizing, and interpreting information from various sources
  • Participate in the scoping and initiation phases of projects, including defining project needs, scope, and justification
  • Collaborate with internal departments and stakeholders to gather necessary data and resolve inconsistencies
  • Contribute to the development of project documentation and reports
  • Support problem-solving and risk mitigation by identifying information gaps and working to address them
  • Promote the use of technology to streamline processes and enhance efficiency

Requirements

  • Enrollment in an accredited college or university with major coursework in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Construction Management, or a closely related field

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to read, interpret, and synthesize complex engineering reports and plans
  • Proficiency in collecting, organizing, analyzing, and interpreting technical data
  • Coursework or experience with GIS, AutoCAD, or similar technical software
  • Familiarity with water and wastewater infrastructure concepts through class projects, internships, or related experience
