Job Summary
The Data Workflow Assistant will help streamline and simplify the faculty merit process. The student will build a reliable data pipeline that consolidates inputs from multiple sources, applies scoring logic defined with the merit committee, and presents results for committee review and final reporting to the Dean and Academic Affairs. The work will emphasize accuracy, usability, and sustainability so that future cycles require minimal manual effort and no ongoing student involvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Map the end to end workflow with committee chairs for Teaching, Research, and Service, and document pain points and decision points.
- Consolidate, clean, and validate data from CSV and Excel files into a structured and reusable format.
- Implement repeatable automation for data intake, validation, transformation, and scoring using Excel, Power Query, and Python as appropriate.
- Build a secure and intuitive review experience for committee members using Power BI dashboards.
- Enable entry of final committee decisions and comments through a controlled input method such as a SharePoint list, a protected Excel Online form, or a simple Power App.
- Produce exports that align with the format required by Academic Affairs for entry into Workday.
- Create clear documentation, data dictionaries, and quick reference guides for users and administrators.
- Pilot the solution with a sample cycle, collect feedback, and incorporate improvements.
- Respect confidentiality and privacy at all times. Students will need to sign an NDA to ensure confidentiality.
Requirements
- Current undergraduate or graduate student in Information Systems, Analytics, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Strong proficiency in Excel including functions, lookups, data cleanup, and Power Query.
- Experience with data preparation and transformation using Python, SQL or R.
- Ability to design effective visuals in Power BI.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with faculty, IT, and administrative staff.
- Demonstrated attention to detail and commitment to data quality and reproducibility.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Power Automate for workflow orchestration.
- Familiarity with SharePoint, OneDrive, and Microsoft Teams for secure collaboration.
- Experience documenting processes, writing user guides, and creating handover materials.
- Exposure to academic data, assessment rubrics, or similar scoring workflows.
