Job Summary

Join the power movement as a Mechanical Engineer. As a Mechanical Engineer for the SPARC Toroidal Field (TF) Coil System Structures team, you will be responsible for the design, production support, and assembly of structural components and insulation in our HTS magnet systems. You will work closely with our Production, Assembly, and Procurement teams to ensure components meet requirements and are delivered on-time. Your responsibilities will also include the development design and analysis documentation, technical specifications, and assembly procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive production drawing releases and revisions to meet manufacturing and assembly schedules
  • Collaborate with internal Quality, Manufacturing, Assembly, Commissioning, and Procurement teams on requirements and documentation
  • Perform structural and thermal calculations, ranging in complexity from first principles hand calculations to FEA
  • Rapidly design, test, and qualify prototypes
  • Prepare reports and presentations as requested
  • Be self-motivated and exhibit excellent problem-solving skills

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, physics, or another relevant field
  • 5+ years of experience designing structural components in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience with CAD software (NX preferred) and analysis software (ANSYS Workbench preferred)
  • Willingness to travel or work required nights/weekends/on-call occasionally
  • Perform activities such as typing, standing, or sitting for extended periods of time
  • Ability to work in a facility that contains industrial hazards including heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead (Pb), high voltage, high current, pressure systems, and cryogenics
