Job Summary

Provides a safe and effective exercise environment for facility users by supervising individual exercise programs, educating the individuals who are exercising, and establishing a personalized program of exercise for each user.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provides supervision of the exercise and fitness areas of the facility, including assisting users with their exercise and fitness program.
  • Promotes knowledge of proper fitness components, i.e. warm up, aerobic exercise, flexibility, cool down, etc.
  • Evaluates each user’s fitness needs and provides the appropriate exercise program for meeting those needs, including providing personal instruction if necessary.
  • Conducts new user fitness assessments and/or orientation in accordance with facility standards.
  • Ensures that all exercise areas and equipment are in safe and effective working condition, including a level of cleanliness that is maintained to facility standards.
  • Provides customer service to patrons.
  • Maintain established department and hospital policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environment, infection and hazardous material control.

Requirements

  • Associates degree in exercise science, health/wellness, fitness, recreation or a related field AND one (1) year experience in health/wellness, fitness, recreation OR Bachelors degree.
  • Certification in AED/CPR within 30 days of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in exercise science, health/wellness, fitness, recreation or a related field.
  • Certification from a NCCA-accredited fitness organization, such as ACSM, ACE, NSCA, NASM.

Physical Requirements

  • The national Institute for Occupational Safety and Health recommends minimizing the need for employees to manually lift patients, and limit safe patient handling to 35 pounds.
  • Heavy/Hard work: Work requires strength and/or stamina, lifting, moving.
